Get off the Couch and RUN!

If only it were that simple right?  Why IS it so hard to stay motivated?  We’ve all been there.  Had a day where we just don’t really feel like getting off the couch and going for a run.  It’s too cold outside, my favorite show is on, too tired, too hungry – too WHATEVER!

Whatever the reason, you need to find a workaround.  If it is too cold, find a treadmill or warmer clothes.  Too tired?  You will find that you have more energy, and feel better after going for a jog than sitting on the couch.  Go ahead, test my theory!

Now, I don’t mind if you take a second to allow yourself to acknowledge that you may not WANT to go for a run at this very second.  You are perfectly welcome to do that.  Once you have however, tell yourself, too bad.  It’s the right thing to do.  Now go strap on those Asics (or whatever brand running shoe you wear) and start the 5K101 5K training program.

Now that you have made the decision to go for it, think about the benefits that lay ahead of you.  Once you are running, things usually sort themselves out.   In fact going for a run is a great time to clear your head, plan out your day, or just have some rare ‘me’ time.  How many of you have come back from a run and thought “man, I wish I hadn’t done that.”  I didn’t think so.  That’s because you always feel better once you have made the decision to get off the couch and go for a run.

Whether it’s a half marathon, 5k, or just a mile – the distance is really not the point.  The point is finding that source of motivation.  That extra little nudge to get your rear in gear.

So what is YOUR motivation?  What can you share that might help motivate someone else to get off the fence, or couch for this matter, and into their running shoes?
